Custom built hardtail 1981 Sportster Ironhead "Ghisarama", a tribute to the iconic Riva Aquarama

“It all began during my childhood spent on the shores of Lake Iseo, and one afternoon the legendary Mr. Mauro invited us for a ride on his splendid Riva Aquarama speedboat for a tour of the lake! – Matteo says – Every aspect and detail of Ghisarama is a tribute to two Italian entrepreneurs: Mr. Riva and Mr. Lamborghini." 

One morning in 1968, Ferruccio Lamborghini visited the Riva shipyard at Lake Iseo and spoke with the owner. In the office, Lamborghini told Riva that his boat was undoubtedly the most beautiful in the world, but he didn't like its two American V8 engines and that he would build two proper V12 engines for him! Once the engines arrived at the shipyard, Riva worked day and night to ensure the unveiling of that unique Aquarama boat to the world in August of the same year, naturally with the blue-colored engines for which Lamborghini was famous! Matteo never forgot his Riva experience on Lake Iseo, and about 40 years later, that boat and Lamborghini became his inspiration for building Ghisarama. 

The two Weber twin carburetors recall the twelve devices originally mounted on the Lamborghini engines, the layer of genuine mahogany wood on the aluminum fairing, created by master cabinetmaker Davide Aresi, a skilled craftsman and artist, is another stunning feature. The mahogany underwent the same painting process used by Riva to create an almost 3D effect, courtesy of specialist Ivan Motta, who also did the entire paintwork. All other work, including the handmade frame, was done by Matteo and his team at Hazard Motorcycle. 

The engine is a 1981 Sportster Ironhead V-twin with 'open valve' setup, twin Weber carburetors, hot cams, S&S 10:1 pistons, modified Morris Magneto, Pingel electric shifter, 1-inch shorter Springer front forks, Laverda SF750 front wheel, special rear wheel with slick tire, leather seat by Hazard & I&R, hand-made aluminum seat and fairing by Andrea Pozzoli, paintwork by Ivan Motta Design with Poison Paint products.

Una mattina del 1968 Ferruccio Lamborghini visitò il cantiere Riva al lago d'Iseo e parlò con il proprietario. In ufficio, Lamborghini disse a Riva che la sua barca era, senza dubbio, la più bella del mondo, ma che i suoi due motori V8 americani non gli piacevano e che avrebbe realizzato due motori Lamborghini V12 per lui! Riva, una volta arrivati i motori in cantiere, lavorò giorno e notte per garantire la presentazione al mondo di quell'unica barca Aquarama nell'agosto dello stesso anno, naturalmente con i motori di color blu, per cui Lamborghini era famosa! Matteo non dimenticò mai la sua esperienza Riva sul lago d'Iseo e circa 40 anni dopo, quella barca e la Lamborghini divennero la sua ispirazione per la costruzione di Ghisarama. 

I due carburatori doppi Weber ricordano i dodici montati originariamente sui motori Lamborghini, lo strato di vero legno mogano sulla carena in alluminio, creato dal maestro armadiere Davide Aresi, artigiano e artista di grande talento, è un'altra caratteristica strepitosa. Al mogano è stato dato lo stesso processo di pittura usato su Riva, per creare un effetto quasi 3D, cortesia dello specialista Ivan Motta, che ha realizzato anche la pittura di cornice e carena. Tutti gli altri lavori, compreso il telaio fatto a mano, sono stati eseguiti da Matteo e la sua squadra alla Hazard Motorcyle. 

Il motore è uno V-twin Sportster Ironhead del 1981 con 'valvole aperte', doppio Weber, camme hot, pistoni S&S 10:1, Morris Magneto modificato, cambio elettrico Pingel, forcelle anteriori Springer accorciate da 1 pollice, ruota anteriore Laverda SF750, ruota posteriore speciale con pneumatico slick, sedile in pelle by Hazard & I&R, Selle e carena in alluminio battuto a mano di Andrea Pozzoli, vernice di Ivan Motta Design - prodotti Poison Paint.

The Aquarama speedboat was produced by the Italian leisure boat manufacturer Riva for over three decades until 1996. The first model was launched by engineer Carlo Riva in 1962. The hull, ranging from 8.02 to 8.78 meters in length, was crafted in mahogany, which was then varnished and polished to enhance the natural beauty of its grain. All versions of the Aquarama were powered by two engines. General Motors-derived engines marinized by Chris Craft and Crusader, as well as Chrysler engines, were used, with power ranging from 185 hp to 400 hp, enabling the Aquarama to reach speeds exceeding 40/45 knots depending on the various power options. Numerous VIP’s owned an Aquarama, making it popular within the jet-set, industrial tycoons, actors and royal families. Some notable owners include Anita Ekberg, Brigitte Bardot, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, who used it as a tender for their yacht, Sophia Loren, King Hussein of Jordan, who moored his Super Aquarama in Santa Margherita Ligure, Gunter Sachs, who moored in St. Tropez, the Shah of Persia, Prince Rainier, Aristotle Onassis, Roger Vadim, Peter Sellers, Silvio Berlusconi, George Clooney and Elle Macpherson in the 2000s, and, of course, Ferruccio Lamborghini who had his Aquarama fitted with two Lamborghini V12 engines. The latter was the fastest Aquarama ever built, reaching 48 knots with 700 hp.

L'Aquarama è stato un iconico motoscafo prodotto sino al 1996 dai Cantieri Riva, per oltre un trentennio. Il primo modello fu lanciato dall'ingegnere Carlo Riva nel 1962. Lo scafo, lungo dagli 8.02 agli 8.78 m, era lavorato in mogano, che veniva poi verniciato e lucidato facendone risaltare la bellezza naturale delle venature. Tutte le versioni dell'Aquarama erano spinte da due propulsori. Venivano utilizzati motori di derivazione General Motors, marinizzati da Chris Craft e Crusader, e motori Chrysler, la cui potenza variava dai 185 cv ai 400 cv, consentendo all'Aquarama di poter raggiungere velocità superiori ai 40/45 nodi in base alle varie potenze. Numerosi furono i personaggi famosi proprietari di un "Aquarama": il motoscafo divenne industriali alle famiglie reali; fra essi si ricordano Anita Ekberg, Brigitte Bardot, Elisabeth Taylor e Richard Burton che lo usavano come tender del loro yacht, Sophia Loren, Re Hussein di Giordania, che ormeggiava a Santa Margherita Ligure il suo Super Aquarama, Gunter Sachs, che ormeggiava a St. Tropez, lo Scià di Persia, il Principe Ranieri, Aristotele Onassis, Roger Vadim, Peter Sellers, Silvio Berlusconi, George Clooney ed Elle Macpherson negli anni 2000, e, naturalmente, Ferruccio Lamborghini che fece montare sul suo due suoi motori V12: l'Aquarama più veloce di sempre con i suoi 48 nodi e 700 cv.
