BMW R Nine-T "328 Hommage" by Luis Moto
A tribute to the new commemorative prototype by BMW: the 328 Touring Coupe replica. The original 328 was a sport car made by BMW between 1936 and 1940, with the body design by by Fritz Fiedler and Peter Szymanowski, who eventually became BMW chief of design after World War II. The iconic car was powered by an in-line 6 cyclinder 2-litre engine capable of 79 BHP @5000 rpm. Thanks to its aluminium body, the car weighted 830 kgm's only and easily reached 150 km/h. The 328 Touring Coupe still holds the record for the highest average speed on the Mille Miglia and it’s now 75 years old. Unveiled at Villa d’Este, the 328 Hommage prototype is built using carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) as used in the M3 and M6, which is lighter than aluminium but stronger. The shape is all wedge-shaped Teutonicness housing a 3.0-litre straight-six.
Luis Bertelli built his tribute custom Nine-T following the same principles: full carbon bodywork and shortened frame for extreme lightness, custom aluminium details and state of the art electronic accessories. The bespoke exhaust system is by Pagani and it's inspired by the Lamborghini design. The stock airbox was removed as well as most of the plastic of the original Nine-t bodywork. The electrics were re-designed were appropriate with a new lightweight battery. The list of the custom details of the Nine-T 328 Hommage is endless... Enjoy the photoshoot in this post to discover several of the details...
