La Maja Desnuda: Carmen and the CBX

The collaboration between Francesco "Paura" Curci, designer and well known rapper and Angelo "Low" Caliendo, experienced customizer started with the build of Francesco’s bike. A 1997 Honda CB 500 Scrambler, which Inazuma Cafe featured some time ago (*). One of their latest builds is this 1984 Honda CBX750F from 1984. The CBX was renamed "Maja Desnuda", like the famous painting by Francisco Goya. The reason for this name is double. On the one hand, the bike was stripped down of the huge plastic fairings to its bare frame. On the other hand, like the painting, which at the time caused quite a stir, the two imagined that some people could be scandalized for sure by the stylistic distortion of a model so much loved by enthusiasts. It must be said that the donor bike was purchased already irreversibly modified. The frame had been cut and upside down Aprilia Rsv 1000 forks had been already installed. That’s why, even respecting the beautiful starting motorcycle, the restoration was virtually impossible. The only alternative to scrap was to complete the work in innovative terms. The modifications concerned the suspensions, the brakes with the handmade rotors, the hi-tech details like the lithium battery, the digital speedometer and the LED lights. The electrics were completely re-engineered and rebuilt. The ignition lock was moved sideways. The oil cooler, originally placed in front of the fork, was relocated on the front frame. The original air box disappeared and was replaced by pod filters. The fuel tank was de-tabbed and partly rebuilt in sheet metal, respecting the stock shape. The owner of the bike is a blues guitarist, collector of black and golden guitars. He had given the designers only one directive: the paint scheme had to be black and gold. So Francesco found his inspiration in a pair of old sneakers, the Adidas Superstar black and gold, and designed the three stripes on the tank.

La collaborazione tra Francesco “Paura” Curci, designer e rapper affermato e Angelo “Low” Caliendo, customizer con tanta esperienza alle spalle è iniziata con la moto personale di Francesco. Una Honda CB 500 del 1997, trasformata in Scrambler, che Inazuma Cafe ha pubblicato qualche tempo fa (*). Una delle loro ultime realizzazioni è questa Honda Cbx 750 F del 1984. La Cbx è stata ribattezzata dagli autori “Maja Desnuda”, come il famoso dipinto di Francisco Goya. La ragione di questo nome è duplice. Da un lato la moto è stata denudata dalle mastodontiche carene in plastica, risultando ora nuda e cruda. Dall’altro lato, come il dipinto, che all’epoca destò molto scalpore, i due immaginavano che qualche estimatore o amante del restauro, potesse scandalizzarsi per lo stravolgimento stilistico di un modello sicuramente amato dagli appassionati. La moto di base, a dire il vero, è stata acquistata già parzialmente modificata, in modo irreversibile. Con il telaio tagliato e la forcella a steli rovesciati Aprilia Rsv 1000. Ragion per cui, anche rispettando la bella moto di partenza, il ripristino era praticamente impossibile. L’unica alternativa alla rottamazione era completare il lavoro in termini innovativi. Gli interventi hanno riguardato le sospensioni, i freni con dischi a margherita artigianali, i dettagli hi-tech come batteria a litio, il tachimetro digitale e le luci a led. Tutto l’impianto elettrico è stato fatto ex novo. Il blocchetto di accensione spostato lateralmente. Il radiatore dell’olio, originariamente collocato davanti alla forcella, è stato ricollocato sul telaio. L’air box originale è scomparso per essere sostituito dai filtri conici. Il serbatoio, prima predisposto per gli agganci dello scudo di plastica, è stato in parte ricostruito in lamiera, continuando le linee di serie. Il proprietario della moto è un chitarrista blues, collezionista di chitarre nere e dorate. Ed aveva dato ai progettisti un solo vincolo: l’abbinamento dei colori nero ed oro. Così Francesco si è lasciato ispirare da un paio di sue vecchie sneakers, delle Adidas superstar black and gold, disegnando le tre bande dorate sul serbatoio.
