Ushuaia - A cafe racer adventure

Salvatore D'Emilio - from Ceccano, near Frosinone (not too far from Rome) - is a great friend of Inazuma Cafe, a great rider and an indomitable traveller: the roads of Europe up to the Isle of Man and the desert tracks of Southern Tunisia are already in the wheels of his glorious Hinkley Bonneville of the early third millennium (carbs). He has now decided to share with us his latest adventure. A couple of weeks ago, Sal sent his bike to Santiago in Chile. After reaching his ride, further to a couple of flights and a twenty-hour journey, he’s now facing a solo ride of over 5200 km between Chile and Argentina, crossing the Andes and Patagonia, down to Ushuaia. Salvatore D’Emilio da Ceccano, vicino Frosinone e non troppo lontano da Roma, è un grande amico dell’Inazuma Cafe, un grande motociclista e un indomito viaggiatore: le strade di Europa sino all’Isola di Man e il deserto della Tunisia meridionale sono già nelle ruote della sua gloriosa Triumph Bonneville a carburatori. Sal ha deciso di condividere con noi la sua ultima avventura. Un paio di settimane fa, ha spedito la sua moto a Santiago del Cile. Ricongiuntosi con il suo amato mezzo, dopo due voli e venti ore di viaggio, sta ora affrontando in solitario un ride di oltre 5200 km tra Cile e Argentina, attraversando le Ande e la Patagonia sino a Ushuaia. Ieri ha attraversato il Paso del Agua Negra, a 4765 metri di altezza...

He set off two days ago from La Serena toward Pismanta, in Argentina, through the Andes, and he has already crossed the Paso del Agua Negra. "200 km of very challenging dirt road - Salvatore says about it - but the experience of Tunisia came off and hence full throttle with the bike floating on gravel like a sled. Getting to the Pass was beautiful and exciting. One of the most difficult laps was done! I didn't think it was so hard. The only problem I had was that the spare fuel tank fell off and broke down. I noticed it just by luck. Risking to fall down several time, facing the violent and freezing wind, we go ahead, as a loaded gun!"

E’ partito due giorni fa da La Serena per Pismanta, in Argentina, attraverso le Ande, e ha già varcato il Paso del Agua Negra. “200 km di sterrato molto impegnativi - racconta Salvatore - ma l'esperienza della Tunisia è venuta fuori e allora: tutto gas e sulla ghiaia la moto galleggia come una slitta. Arrivare al Paso è stato bellissimo ed emozionante una delle tappe più difficili è andata! Non pensavo fosse così impegnativa. Unico imprevisto: la tanica della benzina che si è sganciata e si è bucata. Me ne sono accorto solo per fortuna. Tra cadute mancate ed il vento fortissimo (e freddo) si va avanti carichi a pallettoni!"
