Triple Nickel

Il cinquecentocinquantacinquesimo Squadrone Bombardieri USAF è formato da 21 F16 di base ad Aviano in Italia. La tradizione dello squadrone del triplo Nickel nasce il 25 novembre 1942 quando il 555mo venne costituito e dotato di bimotori B26 Marauder. Durante la seconda guerra mondiale i Nickel condussero diverse azioni contro le forze dell’Asse in Europa e per i loro meriti furono insigniti della prima di quattro menzioni d’onore da parte del Presidente USA. Il nome e il numero di cui parlo hanno ispirato Stacie B. London nella sua attività di pilota su una Honda CB 160 del 1968: lei "vive il suo sogno a Los Angeles, guidando moto d’epoca e lavorando al Museo d’arte contemporanea".

The 555th USAF Bombardment Squadron consists of 21 F-16 based in Aviano (Italy). The Triple Nickel heritage began on Nov. 25, 1942 when the 555th Bombardment Squadron, Medium, was constituted flying the B-26 Marauder. During World War II, the Nickel led offensive actions against Axis forces in Europe. For gallantry in action, the Nickel was awarded the first of its four Presidential Unit Citations. The name and number in comment inspired Stacie B. London in her racing activity on a 1968 Honda CB160: she lives her "dream in El Lay: riding and racing vintage motorcycles and working in a contemporary art museum".
