Gran Turismo Veloce

One of my favorite car, ever. The Alfa Romeo Giulia GT (Gran Turismo), later just Alfa GT, designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro on behalf of Bertone, was produced in different versions between 1963 and 1975, powered by in-line four cylinder engines between 1300cc (the GT Junior) and 2000 cc (the GT Veloce). The two liter version in the pics was produced starting from 1971, it had a 1962 cm³, 150 hp engine with single feeding ensured by two double body carbs. The claimed top speed of the car was over 195 km/h. Main features were 0-100 km/n in 7.2” and 12.6” for a quarter mile. It was the last car of the movie director Pierpaolo Pasolini, the one used to murder him by his killer. When I got my driving license, in the earliest eighties, it was possible to buy a rusty 1300cc Junior for 300,000 Italian lire (equivalent of some 500 euro today). I prayed my father to give me that money for my first car, but it was useless: he considered the GT a wreck and I ended up driving a more expensive, very normal, Fiat Panda. Nowadays is not difficult to find a GT Junior over 20,000 euro…

Una delle mie preferite di sempre, l'Alfa Romeo Giulia GT, poi semplicemente Alfa GT, disegnata da Giorgetto Giugiaro per la Bertone, fu prodotta in diverse versioni tra il 1963 e il 1975, motorizzata da quattro cilindri in linea tra 1300 cc (la versione Junior) e 2000 cc (la versione Veloce). La duemila delle foto entrò in produzione nel 1971. Aveva un notore di 1.962 cm³, 150 cv con alimentazione singola garantita da due carburatori doppio corpo. La velocità massima dichiarata era di oltre 195 km/h. L'accellerazione era bruciante: 0-100 km/h  in 7.2" e 400 metri 12.6". Fu l'ultima macchina di Pierpaolo Pasolini, quella con cui venne investito a morte dal suo assassino. Quando presi la patente, all’inizio degli anni ottanta, era possibile acquistare una vecchia Junior 1300 a 300.000 lire (circa 500 euro di oggi). Pregare mio padre fu inutile: la considerava un rottame e finii per guidare una allora ben più costosa e decisamente meno fascinosa Panda. Oggi non è difficile trovare quella macchina a più di 20.000 euro...
